Well what to say about boudoir?? I know its been a LONG time since I have posted a boudoir shoot on the blog and for that I’m sorry! I decided last year that I wanted to be shooting more boudoir and invested in some new lighting, set up a couple new sets/backdrops and have been loving it all! The ONLY problem with the boudoir shooting is that its such an intimate style that many of my clients choose to keep their images private. I want ladies to feel comfortable coming to the studio knowing its a safe place so even though there are sooooooooo many images I would love to share, I am holding fast to giving my ladies the option! This lovely lady was happy to share if I didn’t reveal her identity so I thought it would be a good opportunity to remind you that we’re still rocking the boudoir in Halifax. In fact it’s looking like by the end of May I will have shot as many ladies for boudoir as I will shoot weddings all year! And I’m loving it!!! I have a few other boudoir related ideas I am working on and hopefully I will have some more images to share with you soon! Ok well I know that we have been on a small blogging hiatus, and I am not promising that I will be perfect at posing every week, however I do promise to do BETTER! As a wedding photographer in Halifax things are ramping up  for the year so I find myself gearing down and getting focused (funny how when we are busier we can often get more done…..wait that could have been a random thing…I find I get more done the busier I am!) BUT without further ado here are 10 Random Things for you! Oh and thanks to my awesome assistant Mike for getting this shot for me for the blog I was being a little picky as I’m not quite used to this post baby bod…but he was patient and worked with me to get something I was happy with.

1. I like variety in FOOD. You’ve heard me probably say 100 times “variety is the spice of life” well I think its true (hopefully I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t believe it!) We have recently been doing really well at eating healthily & eating at home, and I LOVE the new variety of food!

2.I would much rather go to a restaurant and split two meals with someone than just eat mine all by myself. Or those tapas restaurants where you share appetizer sized plates. I did this when friends of ours came over the other day and loved it!

3. I would love to have a party with all the mini foods, little mini soups & grilled cheese, personal veggies & dip, individual shot glass cheesecakes…its a lot of work and I think I would “need” some of those little mini plates and bowls and glasses…so for now, not something I am going to invest in…but someday!

4. My wedding rings still don’t fit. I am probably 8 or so pounds away from my pre pregnancy weight (which was still 10 over my goal weight…so have a ways to go) I thought they were back to fitting the other day when I got them on…but since they cut of circulation and to be removed with soap & much force by hubby….thinking they need a bit more time, or to be re-sized.

5. I have been shooting LOTS of boudoir lately and have been LOVING it! So much so that I have set up another shooting area with a much edgier feel to have even MORE variety in the shots you can get when you come for a shoot! Its such a rewarding experience that I am so happy to be growing in it!

6. My baby has a cold, she sounds like a raspy old man but is still the cutest thing!!!

7. I love to get dressed up. The other day I was going into the city (wow makes it sounds like we live FAR) for a few meetings and all my lulus were dirty (Noooooooooo say it ain’t so!!!) so I decided to dress up a bit, and it felt nice.

8. I love to get REALLY dressed up. I was hoping that my 10 random things Tuesday pic would be me all dressed up for Brigdoon’s Black Tie Bingo this past weekend, Naphtali Carleton (my AMAZING boudoir stylist/makeup artist) did my makeup and I really liked how the whole look came together…but a sick baby, a busy day, a dead camera battery and a few contributing factors made that plan fly FAR out the window!

9. I am currently taking part in a 10 week weight loss challenge with a few ppl in my life and we are HALFWAY through it (how time flies!) My goal was 10lbs in 10 weeks (ok my goal was to WIN but this was what I planned to be “happy” with even if I didn’t win) I’m at 4 now, but we’ve been working out and eating really healthily…so overall I need to remember that this is a positive thing for my health even if the scale isn’t showing the results that I’d like!

10. Wow, I forgot how difficult this can be! Today my toenail polish matches my sweatery/wrappy thing…totally fluke but its nice to be coordinated!

Well when John & Jane got in touch about doing a shoot with their dog (Dakota, one of the best behaved canines I had ever photographed!) my mind automatically went to an outdoor session. After having to reschedule a couple of times we made a date and said, if its kind of nice we’ll do the shoot in Halifax and if its REALLY nice we’ll do the shoot at the beach. When the shoot day rolled around it was BEAUTIFUL out so we decided on the beach…but as we drove out these grey clouds loomed ahead…the fog rolled in and wind picked up…but John, Jane & Dakota rocked it anyway! At first I had felt bad that I made the call to do the shoot at the beach but the light ended up being beautiful so it was a-ok! Thanks John & Jane for a great time at the beach!

Wendy & Sean are getting married down south but wanted to capture some of the things that they love most in a two part engagement session here in Halifax. We started off at the softball field (they both play!) and then took a stroll at Rainbow Haven Beach. I loved that they wanted to shoot in areas they love to go, doing things they love to do.  Here are some shots from both parts of the shoot

Ok so I am not the most creative with blog post names! But I wanted to let you know what was going on with us over here at This is Photography! We are still shooting pretty regularly but will be limiting the number of shoots taken on this summer    so that I can spend as much time as possible with my family (and my new baby girl!!!). I still have a handful of weekend spaces available over the summer for Nova Scotia wedding and will be also doing a couple of mini session dates…one for families/children and one for boudoir. It will be a great special and space will be limited so keep your eyes peeled for the news on that! I actually couldn’t believe how little in the way of family photographs I posted on the blog  this past year! I love lots of the images so will be sharing more over the next little while. We have been shooting lots of boudoir (and there has been lots of boudoir talk in Halifax over the last little while) and have a new “edgy” set with some darker colours, more dramatic lighting and some leather and faux fur! I’ll be sharing some images as soon as I’m given the go ahead from a couple of wonderful clients! We’re updating some gear this year and will be trying some new things out as well. So lots of fun things in store!

Well do you remember in the fall we had three or four days where we had torrential downpours? I’m talking between 30-6omm of rain in a few hours? And that it was cold? Well I am pretty sure that our scheduled shoot with Carol & Mitch fell on every single one of those days. The first one was pretty bad so we rescheduled (we can work with the rain for sure, and sometimes it can be awesome…but at 7 months pregnant we didn’t really want me catching pneumonia) and the date we rescheduled for it rained twice as much! We almost gave in and did a local shoot in Halifax, but once they told me the history of the cottage, how they went there for their first date and how they spend so much of their time there…we kept working for a date where we could make this location work…and I am SO glad that we did! We had a lot of fun exploring the property and playing around, and I love that the location will be meaningful when they look back at these photos in years to come!

So I am pretty proud of us so far in being “intentional” with Addy. Making a point to take her hand/footprints, taking her out, getting out ourselves, doing things with her the way we hope they will be in the long run (even when its not easy now) etc. HOWEVER I have to admit that as a photographer I have been slack in taking good pics of her, so I put it in my planner to schedule some time in to capture her with more than my iphone. The above collage is a result of wanting to capture all her little features I did it once for a client and loved it, and need to do it more! (PS I didn’t photoshop the images at all, I wanted to show her just as she is…PERFECT!!!)

As a surprise Christmas gift for his dad we took this Mr. out for a shoot. I love the million expressions he seemed to pull out of nowhere (and his spiderman moves were second to none) Below are the spreads from the album we created to show off the many sides I’ll be sharing a few more albums over the next few weeks. They are one of my favorite things to send out of the studio, I love making images work together and have them tell a story

Ok well not to brag but having photographer friends pretty much rocks Jeff, Susie and Charlotte came over for a visit today and Jeff brought his camera (and mine was out too) and sent me this when he got home!  So thanks Jeff Cooke for this fabulous shot!

1. Addison Joy Gionet was born 01-02-12 at 8:41 am and was 8lbs 3oz. and she has stolen our hearts!

2. I know its been a while since I have posted any client shots on the blog! A new post will  be coming soon but it turns out I’m not super woman! This having a baby business is tough work!

3. Alex is taking paternity leave to be home with Addison and I.  So in case you were worried that I’d be taking a year off I’m not!!! I am still working but right now we’re enjoying time with our new bundle of Joy so things are a little bit delayed in getting done.

4. I brush my teeth everytime I go to the bathroom at night (and often during the day)

5. My baby toenail is so tiny that sometimes it just falls off!

6. I have recently joined pinterest, and all it has done is made me want to do all kinds of crafty things! I used to take the time to do all of those things…and I think I’ll need to do something crafty again soon, I really enjoyed making my Christmas tags this year

7. If I thought I was hungry when I was pregnant…thats got nothing on me now! My bedside table is stocked with granola bars!

8. We are so blessed by amazing friends who have been super helpful, and amazing family that gives us amazing support. I guess thats not that random but thought it was worth saying.

9. I keep almost falling asleep while writing this!

10. I love Kinect Dance Central and got the new one for Christmas! Looking forward to giving it a try once I’m feeling a bit more like myself.
