And as promised we are back in action.
I will be doing my best to update this blog at least once a week! We are really wanting to show you the variety of sessions we will be offering and what they will more practically look like!
But this one is a way back play back.
It was last January and one of my besties was planning to elope and I was looking at a way to make that a bit more special for them. The court house was their plan and I mentioned it to a family friend who has a lot of connections, and he suggested that the court house be a last resort.
My mind instantly went to the Courtyard Marriott Halifax Downtown where I had worked a good 8-9 years ago, and I remembered one of their beautiful corner suites. We got hooked up with that and I asked my beautiful bride if I could kind of put the day together for her, and she was ok with that because she was planning a larger wedding celebration for the fall.
Oh, so have I mentioned I love weddings? And since she was ok with pretty much anything (people often tell me I should be a wedding planner/decorator, but I don’t think that is my calling at all. I love doing these things for friends and family, BUT I like to have control!) So Becky gave me some ideas of colours and “feels” and I went to work. I designed and hand painted the invitations that were going to the immediate family members, created an artificial bouquet out of peonies, ranunculus and succulents. I borrowed some jars and vases from Karla at the Wedding Vogue and collected every mason jar that myself and my father had (Just saying….he has a LOT) I cleared the dollar store out of floating candles and collected things from my “tickle trunk” (This is the stuff I am having the hardest time going through when it comes to decluttering!!) I got my photog-maid-of-honour-decorator-witness-planner dress to match the colours and charged my camera gear. Andrew and Becky ordered a single layer Layers occasion cake and picked it up the morning of the wedding.
Alex and Andrew helped get things set up in the suite at the Courtyard by Marriott Halifax downtown while Becky was getting herself ready in the adjoining room.
There were a LOT of candles which was great, it was the feel I was going for, but it took a long time to light them all Something to consider when you have 100+ candles to light!!! Sheers were already hanging from the windows and the Edison Bulb lights were strung up in front of them. I took my rose gold sequin backdrop and turned it into a tablecloth for the cake table and made a little cake topper as I was running between rooms to grab shots of Becky finishing her hair. We created a semi circle of chairs with a small isle leading up to it and with hot glue still stringing from my fingers I gave final instructions to Alex and then went off to get ready and take some more pictures of the bride.
The couples immediate families arrived and everyone came together in the little suite and I was so happy that you could genuinely feel the love in the room.
We had a little glitch with our music but got that sorted while Becky peeked in the room. Gosh I love remembering this! I stood and watched two people I love promise their love to each other, and of course did some capturing through the lens.
We celebrated with cake and sparkling beverages and grabbed some pictures of family in the room before I made Andrew & Becky go out in the FREEZING cold and grab a couple of portraits on their way to dinner at A Mano.
It was a wonderful meaningful beautiful day and I was so glad to have captured it. It may not be my fullest photography coverage to date because I was doing and experiencing as well, but I am happy to share it here with you!
